Prof. Dr.-Ing. Frauke Gerder- Rohkamm
Prof. Dr. Frauke Gerder-Rohkamm holds the "Green Building" chair in the Civil Engineering program. In addition, she serves as the program director for the Civil Engineering program and advises students in the practice-oriented PBS program. She is a member of the department’s council and, in addition to her work at the university, serves on the board of the Axel Bundsen Foundation.

My Motivation:
Our problems are man-made and can be solved by humans—we just have to get started. As civil engineers, we bear a tremendous social responsibility, because we actively shape our environment in the fields of buildings, Transport and Infrastructure, and hydraulic engineering. We must use this position to meet the challenges posed by climate change. We need creative, courageous minds to revolutionize the field of civil engineering.
After graduating from Ratsgymnasium Osnabrück, Prof. Dr. Frauke Gerder-Rohkamm completed an apprenticeship as a technical draftsman at Berner Ladenbau in Osnabrück. She then studied civil engineering with a specialization in Structural Engineering at the Oldenburg University of Applied Sciences (graduating in 1998) and subsequently at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Kassel (2000). After completing her studies, she worked for five years as a research assistant at the Institute for Building and Solar Technology at the Technical University of Braunschweig, where she earned her Ph.D. in the field of building simulation (CFD) in 2006. She then ran her own engineering firm (specializing in energy concepts and simulation) for more than 10 years in Germany and, at times, in Austria. Since 2018, she has been teaching at Kiel University of Applied Sciences (HAW Kiel), where she holds the Green Building professorship. She lives with her family in Heikendorf.
Currently, the Green Building division is focusing primarily on the (serial) renovation of buildings. In addition to technical construction issues, however, social issues—such as early entry into homeownership—are also increasingly coming into focus, along with the search for affordable housing options.
