Needle penetration

This test method, in accordance with DIN EN 1426, measures how far a standardized needle penetrates the bitumen at 25°C within 5 seconds. The measured value is expressed in 1/10 mm. The needle penetration indicates the hardness of the bitumen. Our laboratory is equipped with a state-of-the-art needle penetrometer that allows for both fully automatic and manual evaluation. The manual evaluation, in particular, provides students with a clear demonstration of the experiment as part of their training.
