Gender and climate just cities and urban regions

The international working group “Gender and Climate-Just Cities and Urban Regions,” consisting of 13 members from 8 countries, worked from 2022 to 2024 on the current debate regarding the challenges posed by climate change to cities and regions.
Within the interdisciplinary research groups focused on their respective fields, gender perspectives were prioritized in relation to climate-neutral and smart cities. Transdisciplinary processes and approaches are essential for formulating problem-oriented research questions and finding solutions for gender-equitable, climate-neutral, and resilient Cities and regions. The group was integrated into the network of the Academy for Spatial Development within the Leibniz Association. Since December 2025, the results have been published in a special issue of disP - The Planning Review, Volume 61, Issue 3.
