Prof. Dr.-Ing. Lars Appel is currently the associate dean and director of the Institute of Civil Engineering (IfB) in the Department of Media. He holds a professorship in Management and Organization with a Focus on higher education. As a trained transportation planner, he is responsible for the modules

  • Road Design and Construction,
  • Fundamentals of Transportation Planning,
  • Structural Maintenance of Traffic Areas,
  • Planning and Operation of Track-Guided Transportation Systems,
  • Road Construction Laboratory Practicum,
  • Future-Proof Infrastructure

and is responsible for all matters related to local public transportation (ÖPNV). He is also responsible for organizing the advisory board for the civil engineering degree programs. He heads the Road Construction Laboratory at the Institute of Civil Engineering.

    Prof. Dr.-Ing. Lars Appel is a professor of management and organization with a focus on higher education at HAW Kiel. He studied civil engineering at the University of Kassel, with a focus on structural and Manufacturing Technology, and subsequently pursued further studies in the field of transportation. After earning his doctorate at the University of Kassel, he served for many years as a managing partner of a medium-sized construction company in Schleswig-Holstein. He worked for two years as an expert and lecturer at the German Concrete and Construction Technology Association (DBV). In 2017, he accepted a professorship at HAW Kiel and has headed the Institute of Civil Engineering ever since. There, he serves as director of the Road Construction Laboratory and as associate dean of the Department of Media.

    • Innovative public transit operating systems in rural areas
