Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Sabina Hauers holds a professorship in the Fundamentals of Design in the Department of Media and Civil Engineering. In the Architecture program, she is responsible for the modules Structural Design I, II, and III, as well as for City and Regional Planning and design projects.

Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Sabina Hauers is a professor of the Fundamentals of Design at HAW Kiel. She studied architecture and urban planning at RWTH Aachen. She worked as an architect in Berlin, including on the construction of the Jakob-Kaiser-Haus and the offices of members of the German Bundestag, and became a partner at this architectural firm in Cologne. After founding her own firm for architecture and urban planning in 2015, she worked concurrently at the University of Siegen and the University of Wuppertal. After serving as a visiting professor of Sustainable Construction and Design there, she assumed the professorship at HAW Kiel in 2023.
Prof. Hauers grew up in North Rhine-Westphalia. After elementary school, she attended St. Wolfhelm Gymnasium in Schwalmtal until she graduated with her Abitur in 1990. She is a member of the North Rhine-Westphalia Chamber of Architects and the North Rhine-Westphalia Chamber of Planners, holds a 3rd kyu in karate, and has been an active member of the board of the Association for Building Culture in Kiel since 2025.
Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Sabina Hauers’ main areas of research are
• sustainable urban planning
• natural building materials
• recyclable structures
In the spirit of applied research, she addresses urban planning issues in collaboration with local government agencies. In cooperation with the Molfsee Open-Air Museum, she also investigates traditional building forms and the use of natural building materials. To promote the transfer of this knowledge to society, she serves on the board of the Kiel Association for Building Culture, where she is active in architecture outreach.
