What is the Deutschlandstipendium (DStip)?

The Deutschlandstipendium is a Germany-wide scholarship programme for talented students at state and state-recognized universities.

At HAW Kiel, the selected scholarship holders receive support of €300 per month for up to two consecutive semesters.

Applications

Who can apply?

In principle, anyone who is studying or intends to study at HAW Kiel within the standard period of study at the beginning of the funding period can apply.

  • Students enrolled at HAW Kiel at the beginning of the funding period with outstanding achievements
  • Applicants who will enrol for a Bachelor's or Master's degree program at HAW Kiel during the funding period
  • Students who wish to transfer to HAW Kiel during the funding period
  • Applicants and persons transferring to HAW Kiel must have enrolled by the end of the enrolment period.

Prerequisites

What requirements must students of HAW Kiel fulfill?

  • If you are about to start studying at HAW Kiel or have not yet completed a semester at HAW Kiel, you must have a grade of better than 2.0 in your university entrance qualification.
  • ATTENTION: Applicants must enrol at HAW Kiel within the specified enrolment period in August of each year!
  • All other students must have completed at least half of the ECTS per semester as stipulated in the respective curriculum of the degree program.
  • Applicants must not have exceeded the standard period of study for their degree program at the start of the funding period.
  • For Bachelor students
    , the grades achieved in the degree program are decisive. Applications from students who are in the top 20% of the respective degree program will be considered.
  • For Bachelor's graduates,
    who are transferring to a Master's degree course and Master's students , the grade of the degree qualifying for the Master's degree in accordance with Section 49 (4) HSG is decisive. Students must also prove that they are among the top 20% of the respective cohort.

Applicants who are already studying at HAW Kiel do not have to provide proof that they are among the top 20% of the respective degree program.

How and where can I apply?

Applications can only be submitted via theonline portal portal.
The applicable application deadline is also stated there.

Which documents must be submitted?

All documents must be uploaded to the portal in digital form and will be requested during the application process.


- Students enrolled at HAW Kiel:

- Applicants (first degree):

  • Certificate of university entrance qualification
  • ATTENTION: Enrollment must take place within the specified deadline in August of each year!


- Applicants who have previously studied at other universities:

  • Certificate of higher education entrance qualification (if applicable, Bachelor's certificate if you are applying for a Master's degree program)
  • Proof of placement within the previous degree program, which shows that the grade point average achieved is among the top 20% of the cohort
  • ATTENTION: Enrollment must take place within the specified deadline in August of each year!

- Other evidence of special commitment, special successes or special circumstances to improve the grade point average. The required evidence will be listed and requested during the application process.

- Applicants with certificates/certificates from foreign universities or schools:

The following applies in addition to the documents required above:

  • Only the grade converted by uniassist for the German grading system is decisive; this is done with the application for a study place. The converted grade must be submitted by the end of the application deadline for the Deutschlandstipendium at the latest. Please bear in mind that the conversion takes additional time.
  • For Master's students: Proof of placement in the year must be submitted in German or English translation.

All applicants must also submit the Declaration of application for the Deutschlandstipendium must be submitted.

Selection criteria

What are the selection criteria?

In principle, only persons who are enrolled at HAW at the beginning of the funding period and have not yet exceeded the standard period of study can receive a scholarship. Please ensure that you either re-enrol or enrol in good time (enrolment period is usually in August each year)!

Outstanding achievements in your studies and the associated grade point average form the basis for a successful application. However, commitment to HAW Kiel and social commitment outside the university, personal achievements and special life circumstances are also taken into account and included in the assessment. The selection criteria according to §3 (2)b of the Guidelines for the Deutschlandstipendium of HAW Kiel are as follows:

  1. Special achievements, awards and prizes from the last two years, a previous professional activity, internships or voluntary services of a duration of at least six months (substantiated in particular by certificates or diplomas)
  2. Current extracurricular or extracurricular commitment of at least one year, such as voluntary work, regular social, societal, higher education or political commitment or participation in religious societies, associations or clubs (substantiated by written confirmation from the organization)
  3. Special personal or family circumstances such as illnesses and disabilities, caring for own children, especially as a single parent, or close relatives in need of care, working in the family business, gainful employment while studying, family background, especially first-generation students, or a migration background.

A maximum of 0.1 points can be deducted from the average grade for the fulfillment of the above criteria, including the provision of the necessary evidence.
