Sustainable energy
The consensus in national and European climate policy is that a sustainable energy supply must be secure, affordable and climate-friendly in the long term. In order to meet the requirements of the Paris Climate Agreement and achieve the German climate protection targets by 2050, all sectors in the energy system must be geared towards the goal ofreducing CO2 emissions. This requires considerable changes to the energy system and includes, above all, the conversion of energy generation from fossil fuels to renewable energies such as wind and solar, as well as the expansion and redesign of the transmission and distribution grid infrastructure towards smart grids, energy saving and energy efficiency measures, sector coupling, the flexibilization of the electricity supply and the associated further development of the electricity market. Sustainable energy supply makes a significant contribution to the European Commission's Green Deal and the German government's National Bioeconomy Strategy.
