• Enrolment at a state or state-recognized German university
• Talent/good grades
• Social (social, religious, ecological or political) commitment.

The thirteen organizations for the promotion of gifted students supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research are divided into politically oriented, denominationally oriented, trade union-oriented, entrepreneurially oriented and politically independent organizations for the promotion of gifted students. There are also a large number of foundations that award individual scholarships.

The advancement scholarship from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research supports experienced professionals in completing their first university degree.

Funding is available for both full-time and part-time studies. Prerequisites are completed vocational training, at least two years of professional experience and proof of particular professional ability. An application is usually submitted before the start of a course of study. Students can apply up to the end of their second semester, and those who have already been working for many years can also apply.

The target group for the advancement scholarship are in particular those who have achieved the advanced technical college entrance qualification or general higher education entrance qualification during or after training, or who gain access to a course of study through professional qualifications and an aptitude test.
