Encapsulation of power electronic assemblies and the winding head of electrical machines of drive systems with inorganic material
Brief description
The core objective of the project is to research new inorganic potting compounds for use in electrical drive systems. Such materials promise increased thermal conductivity with good insulation properties. Buisness efforts to miniaturize cost-sensitive components can thus be achieved. At the same time, this results in a greater range for battery electric vehicles due to the reduced weight. This is a new class of material in the field of encapsulation of power electronics and electrical machines with significantly better thermal properties than the plastic-based encapsulants used to date, which is to be developed as a universal material for the target application. The research results on material, mechatronics and process technology are to be presented and evaluated in a highly integrated prototype drive for automotive applications. At the same time, a transfer to an industrial drive will also take place, which will prepare for a broader market application. In this project, Kiel UAS has the task of applying the potting compound in the system and on the power modules and carrying out subsystem tests.
