This course will help you understand what to expect, how to present yourself professionally, and what documents to bring. Together, we’ll practice how to approach companies and make a strong impression. If you like, you can attend the Talent Transfair together with the group on the day of the fair.

In today’s globalized world, intercultural competence is a key factor for success – in academics, in the workplace, and in everyday life. Our interactive training Intercultural Collaboration offers practical insights into the following topics:

  • Intercultural communication – how can mutual understanding be achieved?
  • Working in intercultural teams – how can we collaborate effectively and respectfully?
  • Unconscious bias – how do unconscious patterns shape our behavior, and how can we deal with them consciously?

Through interactive methods, peer exchange, and hands-on exercises, you’ll discover how to use cultural diversity as a resource – to collaborate more effectively in your studies, navigate daily life with confidence, and prepare for a successful start to your career.

Do you want to impress with professional application documents, but are unsure how to stand out from the crowd? Do you have specific questions about the application process or your documents and would like to ask an expert?
Then you've come to the right place! 
The trainer Julia Barden is a psychologist with professional experience in the HR department of companies such as Deutsche Bahn and Commerzbank. She supports people in their career orientation and throughout the entire application process and is the author of the book ‘Erfolgreich bewerben'.

The online workshop will cover the following topics:

  • Job search strategies
  • Analysing job descriptions
  • Writing a convincing cover letter
  • Modern CV design
  • Creating an appealing LinkedIn profile

The special thing about this workshop: The theory is followed directly by practice! You will select a suitable position, analyse the job advertisement and draft (in keywords) a cover letter and your CV. There will also be enough time for individual questions. You will also receive free access to Julia's Udemy video course ‘Get your dream job in Germany’, which you can use to work through all the content of the workshop.

Do you have a job interview on the horizon and want to know how to best prepare for it? Do you want to appear authentic and convincing, but are unsure how to respond to critical questions? Are you wondering how to develop a realistic salary expectation and get your nervousness under control?
Then this workshop is the right place for you.
The speaker, Julia Barden, is a psychologist with professional experience in the HR department of companies such as Deutsche Bahn and Commerzbank. She supports people in their career orientation and throughout the entire application process and is the author of the book ‘Erfolgreich bewerben.’ 
The workshop includes the following content

  • Online and on-site job interviews
  • Frequently asked questions in job interviews and response strategies
  • Tips on appearance, behaviour and mindset
  • Determining salary expectations and strategies for salary negotiations
  • Simulation of job interviews and salary negotiation
  • Dealing with nervousness

True to the workshop design, theory is always followed by practice: At the beginning of the workshop, you will select a job that interests you and analyze the job advertisement according to the instructions. You will then learn about the most frequently asked questions in a job interview and the corresponding answer strategies and make notes on how you can answer the individual questions. After you have learned how to determine a realistic salary expectation and how to approach salary negotiations strategically, you will determine your salary expectation for the position. There will also be enough time for individual questions. You will also receive free access to Julia's Udemy video course "Get your dream job in Germany", which you can use to review all the content of the workshop.

This training focuses on Assessment Centers (AC) and aims to equip you with essential knowledge, enhance your soft skills through real AC tasks, and provide individual feedback along with practical tips and tricks. The goal is to better prepare you for the job market and ultimately improve your chances of securing your desired position.

Then this workshop is the right place for you!

What can you expect from this workshop?

  • Key note: Basic information on labour law including topics like payment, holidays, sickness, employment contract, visa, health insurance, etc.
  • Case studies: try it out and experience realistic situations to be optimally prepared!
  • Q&A session: What more do you want to know? Bring your own questions on the topic.

Bussines Language Classes

August 4–15, 2025 | Monday–Friday | 9:00 a.m.–1:30 p.m. | on campus

This course will improve your language skills for professional situations and prepare you for your next job in Germany!

  • Improvement of communication skills in everyday working life
  • Expansion of vocabulary for professional contexts

Participation:

  • Completed German level A2 (proof required in the form of a recognized certificate – please send a scan by email for verification to: educareer@haw-kiel.de)
  • Attendance requirement: 80%
  • Final exam at the end of the course – at least 50% required to pass
