Institute for Accounting and Revision

Content Focus and Objectives

The institute has a broad teaching and research profile in the areas of corporate finance and capital markets. In teaching, we cover both the fundamental economic functional areas – including accounting, financial reporting, cost accounting, as well as investment and financing. In addition, we are responsible for the courses in the advanced bachelor’s program with a focus on Finance, Accounting, Auditing, Controlling, and Taxation (FACT), as well as in the corresponding master’s programs, in particular the Master FACT in Financial Accounting, Controlling & Taxation.

The goal is to prepare students with both a solid theoretical foundation and practical orientation for a wide range of career paths in the financial world, while at the same time contributing to academic discourse through applied research.

Special Profile

Our institute is characterized by a strong research orientation within the university of applied sciences context. At the same time, we maintain close ties to professional practice, for example through collaborations with companies, the involvement of external lecturers, and joint projects with industry.

Research Areas and Projects

The institute’s research activities range from classical accounting and capital market research to behavioral issues in finance. Current projects address, among other topics, the empirical analysis of sustainability reports, accounting choices, the significance of the yield curve for financial market stability, financing concepts for equipment-as-a-service business models, as well as market-implied credit risk indicators based on credit default swaps.

Career Prospects for Students

Our graduates are qualified for a wide range of careers, particularly in the areas of accounting, auditing, tax advisory, controlling, treasury, finance departments, corporate finance, and investment banking. Career paths in financial consulting, risk management, as well as positions at supervisory and regulatory authorities are also possible options.
