Prof. Dr. Ute Vanini is a professor in Business Administration and Controlling at the Faculty of Business.
She teaches Risk Management, Controlling, Theory and Application of Science, Sustainability- and Controllingmanagement, as well as Management Control.

Prof. Dr. Ute Vanini is, in addition to her work as a university lecturer, spokesperson for the research focus Sustainable Value Creation at Kiel University of Applied Sciences. Since 2023, she has also been a member of the Supervisory Board of Sparkasse Südholstein. Previously, she was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Landesverein für Innere Mission, Rickling (2019–2023) and a member of the Supervisory Board of the Investment Bank of Schleswig-Holstein (2015–2022). In addition, she is co-editor of the journal REthinking Finance and teaches in the Master’s programs Auditing (Leuphana University Professional School) and Hospital Management (ZWW at Kiel University, CAU) as well as at Management Circle. She gained her professional experience at the Savings Banks and Giro Association of Schleswig-Holstein as a consultant for risk controlling (1999–2003) and in risk controlling at Sparkasse Kiel (1998–1999).

 

Prof. Dr. Ute Vanini is currently conducting research on the following topics:

  • Implementation problems of risk management systems with special consideration of opportunity and resilience management
  • Roles in risk management
  • Integration of risk management and controlling
  • Integration of sustainability competencies into higher education teaching

She is spokesperson of the research cluster Sustainable Value Creation at Kiel University of Applied Sciences, reviewer for various scientific organizations such as AiF, the German Council of Science and Humanities, and FFG, as well as for several academic journals. She is a member of the Advisory Board of the Risk Management Association (RMA), a jury member for the Controlling Excellence Award of the International Controller Association (ICV) and the Women Entrepreneurs Award of the Investment Bank Schleswig-Holstein, and a member of the European Accounting Association (EAA), the International Controller Association (ICV), the German Academic Association for Business Research, and the Kiel Salon. She is co-editor of the journal REthinking:Finance and a member of the advisory board of the Journal of Risk Management.
