Prof. Dr. Ruth Boerckel

Since March 1, 2022, Ruth Boerckel has served as Vice President of Kiel University of Applied Sciences. Prior to that, she held various academic leadership roles at the Faculty of Business Management:

• Dean, Faculty of Business Management, Kiel University of Applied Sciences (July 1, 2020 – February 28, 2022)

• Member of the Faculty Board, Faculty of Business Management (September 1, 2016 – February 28, 2022)

• Program Director, Master’s Program in Business Administration for Non-Business Graduates (Summer Semester 2016 – Summer Semester 2020)

• Member of the Faculty Convention, Faculty of Business Management (September 1, 2012 – August 31, 2022)

Since September 1, 2011, she has been Professor of Economics and International Economics at Kiel University of Applied Sciences. From 2004 to 2011, she held a professorship in Economics at Nürtingen-Geislingen University (HfWU).

Earlier in her career, she lectured at HfWU Nürtingen-Geislingen and the VWA Business Academy in Munich (2000–2004), and worked as a research associate at the University of Mannheim, where she earned her Ph.D. in Economics (1996–2001).

From 1992 to 1996, she worked in corporate and business client services at Hypo-Bank in Munich. She studied Economics at the University of Tübingen from 1986 to 1992.

Married, mother of six children

Ruth Boerckel’s teaching focuses on both macroeconomic and microeconomic theory. She also offers advanced courses for master’s students in economics and economic policy, with a particular emphasis on international markets.
