Prof. Dr. Klaus Dieter Lorenzen

Prof. Dr. Klaus Dieter Lorenzen is a professor in Business Administration. His specialization is in the field of Supply Chain Management, with a particular focus on Procurement and Purchasing Logistics.

Since August 1, 1994, Klaus Dieter Lorenzen has been a Professor at Kiel University of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Business, Institute for Supply Chain and Operations Management. His other current activities include, for example, the academic and scientific direction of training programs for procurement, the (co-)organization of the event treff.einkauf, as well as consulting, training, and coaching activities in the field of procurement.
He received his doctorate in 1994 at Dortmund University (today: Technical University of Dortmund). From 1987 to 1994, Prof. Lorenzen worked as a research associate at the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics (FhG-IML) in Dortmund. During this period, he also served as a lecturer for various continuing education providers and, from 1989 to 1990, held an additional position as editor of the journal Logistik Spektrum, a publication of the German Logistics Association. Prior to this, from 1982 to 1987, he studied Business Administration at the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences at Dortmund University (today: Technical University of Dortmund).
The research focus of Prof. Dr. Klaus Dieter Lorenzen is derived from the tasks of purchasing management. Key areas include goal and strategy development, procurement controlling and procurement performance indicators, performance measurement in procurement, as well as organizational and personnel development in procurement. In addition, he addresses specific issues related to sustainability, supplier and risk management, inventory management, and process optimization in procurement.
For knowledge transfer, Klaus Dieter Lorenzen pursues various approaches. LinkedIn serves, for example, as a communication platform for treff.einkauf, a voluntary networking initiative for procurement enthusiasts. Through this format, several events for the exchange of experience and knowledge are organized annually. In addition, Prof. Lorenzen holds the academic and scientific direction of a qualification program (“Weiterbildung mit Mehr(!)blick”), which is offered together with the university’s cooperation partner, the Tannenfelde Educational and Conference Center(www.tannenfelde.de), for specialists and executives in procurement. Based on the didactic concept “3E Blended Learning” (3E = Experience, Explore, Evolve), an experienced team conveys up-to-date, practice-oriented, and directly applicable competencies for success-oriented procurement.
